Video consultations for preoperative anaesthetic assessment
Project Status:
Recruiting
Background
The routine use of preoperative anaesthetic assessment is as gold standard a physical consultation between anaesthetist and patient prior to surgery requiring general anaesthestia. In recent years, video-based assessments have been investigated with a focus on patient satisfaction and enhancing efficacy.
The VIDFACE trial aims to compare video-based preoperative anaesthetic assessment with face-to-face assessments, with a focus on patient safety and satisfaction.
Intervention
2260 adult patients will be randomized 1:1 to
A
Video preoperative assessment
B
Face-to-face preoperative assessment
Study Design
The video versus face-to-face preoperative anaesthetic assessment (VIDFACE) trial is a randomised, multicentre, two-arm, superiority, assessor- and data analyst blinded clinical trial.
The primary outcome is a composite outcome consisting of five complications related to surgery: Death, ICU admission, bleeding, infection and re-admission.
