Collaboration for Evidence-based Practice & Research in Anaesthesia

CEPRA is a research collaboration aimed to facilitate and support perioperative research programs including large pragmatic multi-centre trials.

About

Through Collaboration for Evidence-based Practice and Research in Anaesthesia (CEPRA), we strive to address critical questions in anaesthesia practice with the goal of enhancing patient care and outcomes in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.

CEPRA will execute cost-effective investigator-initiated research programs, including randomized trials, to assess the benefits and risks of common anaesthesia interventions. This approach ensures evidence-based treatment for patients.

In the upcoming years, we intend to conduct multiple large pragmatic multi-centre randomized trials. The collaborative nature of CEPRA allows simultaneous trials within the same patient group using factorial trial design and shared data management systems, resulting in optimised resource utilisation and reduced costs.

Purpose

To improve treatment and outcomes and optimize use of resources for patients undergoing anaesthesia and a perioperative course.

To disseminate results and inform caretakers, patients and relatives, and policy makers of evidence-based treatments in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.

Objectives & Research Philosophy

Document or refute benefit and harm of frequently used anaesthesia interventions

Perform methodologically state-of-the art pivotal multicentre randomised clinical trials

Perform relevant supporting studies such as observational studies, systematic reviews, feasibility trials etc.

Develop and improve relevant methodological methods to evaluate, synthesize and report trial results

Disseminate and clinically implement relevant research results

Perform cost effectiveness / economic analyses of consequences of results of the interventions

Monitor clinical practices before and after to secure maximal gain
